We have an Eco study group gathering information around the site. They have placed corrugated sheets and boards around the pits for observing amphibians. We Kindly ask that you do not lift or move them as this will affect the study. Thanks for your co operation.

Planned Drilling Work

Due to the surrounding land around Elstow, it is necessary for test drilling work to be carried out around the site. This will be commencing 16th April (weather permitting) for a few weeks. There may be some disruption but we are hoping it will not be too bad. Please do not enter the areas where drilling is commencing. Thanks for your co-operation

Letter to Elstow Members from Fran Gurd

Dear Member

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that my husband Len Gurd died 10th March 2018; I wanted to reassure you that the fishery will continue as it always has just as Len wanted.

Elstow now has its own website, please check News on the home page where there will be information of anything about the Fishery such as work parties and anything being carried out at the fishery, in fact before visiting Elstow it may be wise to check the news as sometimes work may be carried out off site that affect the fishery.

Yours sincerely

Fran Gurd

A Tribute to Len Gurd

It is with a very heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of Len Gurd.

Len passed away at the age of 78, peacefully at home with his loving wife Fran by his side. All of us involved at the fishery are devastated and our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this truly sad time.
Len, for those that didn’t know him, was the founder of Linear Fisheries back in 1973 and in the early 90’s Co-founded Elstow Fisheries. Len had a wealth of fishing and fisheries knowledge, something which made fishing very exciting and in turn lead to the successful fishery we all know and love today.
You would be hard pushed to find a nicer, more helpful man, with many talents that were not just limited to those of the fishing world. In recent months, when his health was failing, he found time to write two wonderful new children’s books, that were illustrated by his equally talented grandson, Luke. He was very proud of publishing these with his grandson!
Len was also highly involved with charity work and through the fishery he helped many charities. One charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, had a very special place in his heart, along with that of his wife Fran. Through the Linear ‘Fish with the Stars’ events, they raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and made many special memories!
What many of you probably didn’t realise is that he was also the man behind the camera for many of the early carp fishing videos, through his other business ‘The Original Video Company’. Len filmed numerous titles including Harefield Haulin, Tel & Jacko Go Carp Fishing and the Gardner Carpwise series. He also filmed, and helped direct & produce The Total Fishing programmes. He was always a pleasure to be around and the world of carp fishing has lost one of its best.

Rest in peace Len, words are just not enough to show how much we will all miss you. Both Elstow and Linear will never be quite the same again.

The Waiting list for Pit 2 is now closed and the membership is full for 2018. This will reopen on October 1st for a short period of time. Any applications sent before this date will not be processed.
